David Michell - Backstory

You might know David Mitchell from the UK panel show circuit - such hits/bullshit as "Would I lie to you","The Big Fat Quiz", "Mock the Week" and "8 out of 10 cats".
Having seen those shows I always thought he came across as a raving, private schooled, know-it-all, broken-glass-voiced twat, who was also seemingly very intelligent.
Since finishing his "Backstory" it seems my assumptions were partly correct, he does rave, he was private schooled, he is hard to listen to in long stretches and he is very smart, however he certainly is no twat. His backstory does what any backstory should, it lends humanity to the small windowed snippet of a human, glimpsed amongst a throng of attention grabbing comedians, he is a human, and a sensitive caring one at that, additionally, a VERY good writer.
Both fortunately and unfortunately, this audiobook was read by the author, the two edged sword is, his voice is hard to bear, however I don't think anyone else could have done it the way he did, after all, it contains his life, parts of his jokes, and well...him.
